“Look to the East”
When a white buffalo calf is born, it is a sign of healing within ourselves, or communities, our Earth.  This has happened since the first white buffalo calf came to the Lakota People.  Her name was “White Buffalo Calf Woman.”  She appeared during the time of harsh living.  The people were suffering and when she approached two young scouts, she destroyed the one who thought “ill” thoughts of her.  Because the other scout averted his gaze when she unclothed herself in from of him, she spared him.  It was a test to see if humanity was worth saving.  For that, she asked to have council with the chiefs and elders and brought “the pipe” with her.  She explained that when you use it, you create life.
When you are young, you are reminded that when the morning comes, just before the sun rises above the ground, that is when you pray.  This is because while the sun rises, the new day begins.  It brings new life, new thoughts, and new blessings.  But of course, it does not mean that this is the ONLY time you should pray, because the moon also rises within the East as well.
